ATTRACTIONS IN THE SLIEVE BLOOM MOUNTAINS

PLACES TO VISIT

Slieve Bloom Mountains
Clonaslee is the gateway to the fantastic glens, rivers and uplands of these mountains.5 rivers,4 beautiful glens are in our area-Glenkeen,Glendineoregan,Glenlahan and Glenbarrow.
Only minutes away are the Wonderful villages of Cadamstown, Kinnity, Camross and Rosenallis.

Brittas Woods and Lake
Need a break, need some fresh air, does the dog need a walk![please note, that all dogs must be on a leash. The lake has waterfowl and actually it is the LAW]
Brittas woods are quiet, yet ideal for an hour long stroll.
The Lake is perfect for a Sunday stroll.
Coilte and Clonaslee Tidy Towns plan to erect Information Panels at the entrance to both the Woods and the Lake in Summer of 2006.
Coilte and Failte Ireland are adding more walks and hike routes in 2006.

Glenbarrow
We share this magnificent glen with Rosenallis, but really we want to share Glenbarrow with everyone. It is a national treasure. The short walk from the car-park to the Clamphole Waterfalls is one of the most popular walks in the Slieve Blooms.Along this trail one can see the cliffs of glacial drift left here by the last glaciers of our last Ice Age,some 10,000 years ago.The trail narrows and gets wilder past the waterfalls and the river flows through a deep gorge and if you cross the little wooden footbridge you can follow the Slieve Bloom Way onto Knockanastumba and eventually the Cut!

For detailed information on the Glenbarrow Looped Walks go to the Slieve Bloom Mountain page within this section.

Glendinoregan
This is the valley of the annual St Stephens Day Hospice Walk,a great charity event.

Glendineoregan has a hard to find, but well worth seeing waterfalls.Get a hold of "Bladma" Tom Joyce's wonderfull little handbook of Slieve Bloom walks,to find this hidden wonder.

[May 2005-its getting harder to find that waterfall, due to logging and some wind-falls,Tom Joyces route no longer works. For the truly curious, take the slieve bloom way from the car-park at the cut into this valley,at the top where you cross the river, continue for 5 minutes to a large circular roundabout, drop into deep and boggy valley on your right to get to the waterfall, best of luck.jk.]
